Whilst we don’t give advice (we leave that to the experts and will always refer people to their medical teams) we can link members with people who have been through something similar. We share our own stories to give people information and options and demonstrate that they are not alone.
We can sympathise with what people are going through and there will always be somebody who understands. We know that everyone does things differently and thinks about things in a unique way and we respect that. Our members sign up to the group understanding that they are joining a peer support group where support is given and received by all our members and that everyone should be respectful of others individuality and whilst we may not always agree with others, we can always be respectful of them.
We know that physical activity is important for; recovery from surgery, treatment and cancer related fatigue, reducing risk of recurrence and for our mental health. We also understand that people’s ability to exercise is varied. Therefore when we say exercise, we mean the movement of our bodies in a way that is manageable but challenging for the individual. Being able to talk about a cancer diagnosis and all that goes with it is the first step in managing the emotional and psychological issues that can accompany a cancer diagnosis. It isn’t always something that is easy to talk to family and friends about. Its often much easier to talk to people that have a shared experience and understand.

It isn’t always something that is easy to talk to family and friends about. Its often much easier to talk to people that have a shared experience and understand. Therefore we invite anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer at any point in their lives (there is no expiry date) to contact us for a chat, whether that is to talk on the phone, email us a question, join an activity or ask for support.

The effects of cancer can be felt physically, psychologically and emotionally for many years, and we know that not everyone wants to go to a support group forever. Through our social activites and relaxed atmosphere we encourage people to make friends with others in the group. This allows people to move on when they are ready whilst carrying on those friendships into their lives to support you on an ongoing basis.

This is particularly useful for seeing what events are going on and for those who may not be able to access the events or are in treatment and have low immune systems. A chance to chat with others without having to get dressed or go outside. Perfect for insomnia at 4am. Post about whatever is swimming around your head and get it out into writing. You never know, it might just help you fall asleep and you could get just the answer you were looking for.
However, those who don’t use Facebook get monthly emails to let them know about our events and activities.
For this reason, our services are also available to men. We are aware that men will have very different issues that they require support with and we are eager to learn and adapt. We amend our activities to the needs of the group. Whilst we don’t currently have any men registered, we are ready, willing and able to support them. Just give us a call.
