Q. When and at what point on your roller coaster ride did you join BFY?
A. After mastectomy and reconstruction in 2018
Q. Where did you hear about us?
A. I picked up a heart shaped pillow at the Magnolia Centre and was so impressed with the poem that I made contact when I got home. Admittedly it was at approx 5am but Zoe answered me within minutes and made me feel really welcome.
Q. What have you gained from being a member of BFY?
A. When I was first diagnosed in 2010 Breast Friends did not exist so I went through a lumpectomy and radiotherapy with very little help and support. My how things have changed since then. When the cancer returned I had a mastectomy and a LDflap reconstruction and I joined BFY . I have now become part of amazing group of people who have all had similar experiences and have all developed their own coping strategies, which they are willing to share. Everyone I have met has been friendly, positive and all have an enthusiasm for life and a willingness to try new things
Q. What are your passions?
A. Cycling, reading, steam fairs, classic motorcycles and going away in my motorhome to explore new places.
Q. Your favourite place in York?
A. Anywhere where I can meet friends for a chat will be my favorite place whilst I am there.
Q. What are you best known for?
A. I am willing to have a go at anything (as long as it is not illegal)
Q. A what advice would you give to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients?
A. Keep talking, Stay positive and remember to look forwards, setting yourself achievable goals.
Q. What message do you want to send to the world about breast cancer or cancer in general?
A. Any cancer diagnosis is traumatic and life changing for the whole family . People react in different ways there will be fear, anger, sadness and the 'why me?' question. Treatments have come a long way in a short space of time and research is continuing to develop better treatments all the time. Remember, if in doubt shout, someone will be able to give you an answer.
