Q. When and at what point in your bc roller-coaster ride did you join BFY?
A. I found BFY a few weeks before my first chemo therapy and just after diagnosis
Q. Where did you hear about us?
A. I googled cancer support in York, made contact and chatted in the FB group first. One of the members was a similar age to me and had her last chemo the same day I had my first. She sat with me and reassured me through that whole first treatment. It will always mean the world to me.
Q.What have you gained from being a member of BFY?
A. I have gained so much, friends who I would now call family. Support, advice, laughter, a sounding board. There is something amazing to be able to say I feel this particular way, and someone be able to really relate because they have been there too. And because we are all different ages, with different experiences we have such a broad range of support to offer new members.
Q. What are your passions?
A. Learning, craft & design. As a family we are into American football but one of my absolute passions was given to me by Cancer and that is talking to other people about Breast Cancer . I am a volunteer for another breast cancer charity who gives breast cancer awareness talks.
Q. Words/phrase you live by?
A. Why not? Why can’t you do everything you want to? The world is your oyster and the only limitations you have are yourself.
Q. Your favorite place in York?
A. Many people would say it was anywhere I can shop but I think it would be anywhere I can get together with friends.
Q. What are you best known for?
A. Boobs! I always knew boobs would be a factor in my life choices.. I didn’t know it would be quite like this!
Q. What advice would you give to newly diagnosed bc patients?
A. Although you cant see it right now there will be some good parts of your journey. You will learn so much - about yourself, those around you and about what’s important. Its tough, but you can do it.
Q. What message do you want to send to the world about bc or cancer in general?
A. That everyone should be aware of checking. It doesn’t matter your age, or gender. The only prerequisite for breast cancer is breast tissue.. and every single one of us has that.
